Government votes against a referendum on water in Seanad
They are currently debating the water services bill in the Seanad and will not be able to vote on the Bill proper until Monday; but the democratic deficit in our system of government is becoming more and more apparent to the people.
At the moment in the Seanad we are seeing the government defeating proposed amendments to the Bill. It has just been reported in radio news that today, with the help of 4 Independent Senators, they defeated the amendment to put the issue to the people in a referendum, and passed the second stage of the Bill.
So what does this say about the state of our democracy and the dictatorial mindset (at all costs) of our political class. What does it say about who makes the decisions in our country:
Is it the people? Clearly not.
Is it our representatives in consultation with the people who voted them in? Not that either.
It appears that these decisions are being made outside of this country by a small group of people, and our government (cabinet table) simply whip the rest of their pointless opinionless TDs into voting for this.
The crux of it is that OUR ELECTED TDs JUST VOTED TO PREVENT THE PEOPLE HAVING A SAY IN THEIR OWN LIVES !
What makes this worse is that the people saved the Seanad in a recent referendum so that they could put a handbrake on the Dáil ramming through policies the people were against. And this is how they repay us.
This is why we need to change the system of government in Ireland…
This is why WE NEED DIRECT DEMOCRACY returned to our constitution; and DDI is the only party that intend doing this.
We want to return citizen initiated referendums so these decisions can be overturned by the people, to remove the whip from politics, and to enable the recall of politicians who lose the trust of the public
We hope you will all spread the word to your family and friends, and come the election you will take back control of your government and elect DDI candidates so we can return the direct democracy articles stolen from our constitution.
We also hope you will join up to DDI and become active members and in local groups and election campaigns.
