Edward Quilty
Waterford Constituency

I’m Edward Quilty a candidate in the general election for Direct Democracy Ireland in Waterford city and county. I’ve lived in Waterford all my life, I was educated in Mount Sion C.B.S, and Central Technical Institute also in W.I.T, achieving a degree in Applied Social Studies in Social Care. I’m married to Dane Katja and have two wonderful children.

My background is youth work and social care, I studied Social Care and worked as a residential care worker with young people. I’ve worked in the Health Service Executive (H.S.E.) as a social care worker in Waterford Community Care, I have have first hand experience about how this hierarchical bureaucratic system is failing the people. The poor decision making of the H.S.E. Waterford is proving to be detrimental to children, young people the disabled and elderly in a care system where services are minimal at best.

With the health sector imploding, University Hospital Waterford is struggling to be fit for purpose due to neglect of our health system under this current and past Governments.

There are 504 people and children homeless in Waterford according to latest figures, this is unacceptable. Its time to step forward and vote for the change everyone says they want.

My Election Priorities are.

Housing, to return local county councils to building social housing and for Waterford peoples to have a home.

Halt of evictions and work towards a solution

Reject TTIP Rural Development, to return the rural communities to a more vibrant community where local people have a sense of community.

Abolish Irish Water and water charges and call for an immediate cessation to the medication of our drinking water by removing the fluoride.

Abolish local property tax

Reopen wards in U.H.W to elevate overcrowding in the Hospital.

Improve education standards so children are taught how to think, rather than what to think.

A robust jobs package for Waterford.

If I am elected as a Waterford T.D. I will initiate a forum to introduce Direct Democracy to Waterford so that everybody has a say in how Waterford and our country is run, I will advocate people initiated referendums to change bad policy and poor acts and legislation using a Direct Democracy process thus restoring the power to the people.
